This is a courtesy translation of our Privacy Policy; the Japanese version is the authoritative text. Manabi Mate LLC (the “Company”) establishes this Privacy Policy (this “Policy”) regarding the handling of users’ personal information in the services provided on this website (the “Service”).

  1. Personal Information
    1. “Personal information” means personal information as defined in Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information: information about a living individual that can identify a specific person by name, date of birth, address, phone number, contact details, or other descriptions, as well as data — such as appearance, fingerprints, voiceprints, and health-insurance policyholder numbers — that can identify a specific person on its own (personal identification information).
  2. How We Collect Personal Information
    1. The Company may ask for personal information such as name, date of birth, address, phone number, email address, bank account number, credit card number, and driver’s license number when users register. We may also collect transaction records and payment information containing users’ personal information from our partners (including information sources, advertisers, and ad distributors; “Partners”).
  3. Purposes of Collection and Use
    1. The Company collects and uses personal information for the following purposes:

      2. To respond to user inquiries (including identity verification)
      3. To respond to user inquiries (including identity verification)
      4. To send emails about new features, updates, campaigns, and other services provided by the Company
      5. To contact users as needed, such as for maintenance and important notices
      6. To identify and refuse users who violate the Terms of Service or attempt to use the Service for fraudulent or improper purposes
      7. To let users view, change, or delete their registration information and view their usage status

  4. Changes to the Purpose of Use
    1. The Company will change the purpose of use only when the new purpose is reasonably related to the previous one. When the purpose is changed, the Company will notify users or announce it on this website by the method it prescribes.
  5. Provision to Third Parties
    1. The Company will not provide personal information to third parties without the user’s prior consent, except in the following cases or as otherwise permitted by the Act on the Protection of Personal Information and other laws:
      1. When necessary to protect a person’s life, body, or property and obtaining the individual’s consent is difficult
      2. When especially necessary to improve public health or promote the sound development of children and obtaining the individual’s consent is difficult
      3. When cooperation with a national agency, local government, or their contractor is necessary to perform duties prescribed by law, and obtaining the individual’s consent could impede those duties
      4. When the following items have been announced or published in advance and the Company has filed a notification with the Personal Information Protection Commission:
        1. That the purpose of use includes provision to third parties
        2. The categories of data provided to third parties
        3. The means or method of provision to third parties
        4. That provision to third parties will stop upon the individual’s request
        5. How such requests are received
    2. Notwithstanding the preceding paragraph, the recipient is not considered a third party in the following cases:
      1. When the Company outsources all or part of the handling of personal information within the scope necessary to achieve the purpose of use
      2. When personal information is provided through business succession due to a merger or other event
      3. When personal information is used jointly with specific parties, and the fact of joint use, the categories of jointly used data, the scope of joint users, their purpose of use, and the name of the party responsible for managing the information have been notified to the individual in advance or made readily available to them
  6. Disclosure of Personal Information
    1. When an individual requests disclosure of their personal information, the Company will disclose it without delay. However, disclosure may be withheld in whole or in part in the following cases, and if the Company decides not to disclose, it will notify the individual without delay. A fee of 1,000 yen per request applies to disclosure.
      1. When disclosure could harm the life, body, property, or other rights or interests of the individual or a third party
      2. When disclosure could significantly hinder the proper execution of the Company’s business
      3. When disclosure would otherwise violate laws or regulations
    2. Notwithstanding the preceding paragraph, information other than personal information, such as history and characteristic information, will not be disclosed in principle.
  7. Correction and Deletion
    1. If personal information held by the Company is incorrect, the user may request its correction, addition, or deletion (“Correction”) through the procedures set by the Company.
    2. If the Company determines that a request should be granted, it will make the Correction without delay.
    3. The Company will notify the user without delay after making a Correction or deciding not to make one.
  8. Suspension of Use
    1. If an individual requests suspension or deletion of their personal information (“Suspension”) on the grounds that it is being handled beyond the scope of the purpose of use or was obtained by improper means, the Company will conduct the necessary investigation without delay.
    2. If the investigation shows that the request should be granted, the Company will carry out the Suspension without delay.
    3. The Company will notify the user without delay after carrying out a Suspension or deciding not to.
    4. Notwithstanding the preceding two paragraphs, if Suspension would require significant cost or is otherwise difficult, and alternative measures can protect the user’s rights and interests, the Company will take those alternative measures.
  9. Changes to This Policy
    1. This Policy may be changed without notice to users, except as otherwise provided by law or this Policy.
    2. Unless otherwise specified by the Company, the revised Policy takes effect when posted on this website.
